The PrimeR® is the first Early Streamer Emission air terminal that has been designed and tested in accordance with the newly released NF C 17 102 version 2011. The installation must therefore conform to new standard version requirements to ensure both proper working principles of the air terminal and secondly a reliable and safe protection for the structure:

The Lightning Risk must be assessed according to the new Lightning Risk Assessment. Based on this survey, the Consultant must propose the adequate Protection Level (I to IV).

Two down conductors minimum per air terminal. The down-conductors consist of strips, braided cables or round sections, bare or tin-plated copper are recommended, stainless steel or aluminum can be used as well. The conductor minimal cross-sectional area must be 50mm².

The down conductors shall be routed to the earth termination as direct as possible. Sharp bends and upward sections (40cm max with a 45° slope max are acceptable) are to be avoided. The down conductors shall be attached on the basis of three fixing per meter

The down conductors shall be directly connected to the base of the air termination system and to the earth termination system by the mean of a test clamp.

If project structure is of structural steel frame construction, down conductors may be omitted and air terminals shall be connected to the structural steel frame around the perimeter of the structure.  Connections to the steel frame shall be made with heavy duty bonding plates or with exothermic welds.

Special requirements for the buildings between 60m and 120m high, and then for high rise buildings >120m

Common grounding of all ground mediums within the project building shall be made by interconnecting with main size conductors, fittings as required or exothermic welds. Grounded metal bodies located within the required bonding distance (as determined by the bonding distance formulas in NF C 17 102 : 2011 §5.6) shall be bonded to the system using bonding conductors and fittings. Bond to rebar shall be made with heavy duty bonding connectors or exothermic weld connections.

One earth termination system is to be provided for each down-conductor. The resistance value should be 10 ohms or less (5 ohms or less when the structure contents sensitive materials)

Where the structural steel framework is utilized as the down conductor for the system, every other perimeter steel column shall be grounded.  Steel columns shall be grounded using bonding plates or with exothermic welds. Conductors from the steel column connections to the ground terminations shall be full size copper lightning conductors.
